My heart was hard,
Unbecoming, crude,
For all its afflictions.
For all the misfortune,
You bestowed upon me,
Silent, closed, rueful.
My stomach a pit,
My mind warped,
My heart was hard.
No feather seemed
Heavier on it,
My shins burdened
By the weight of my belly.
Till your friendship
Touched me
My heart was hard.
I love you now,
My blood is gentler.
It flows not knowing
Where it goes
But surer.
The dark cloud,
I don't oft see,
Because
My heart is lighter now.
